How to Use the 4 Letter Word Finder?
Finding four-letter words from your available letters only takes a few steps.
1. Enter Your Available Letters
Type the letters you want to use into the 4 Letter Word Finder. The tool searches the selected word list and returns words containing exactly four letters.
2. Add Blank Tiles if Needed
If you have a blank tile available, include it in your search. A blank can represent another letter when forming a word, but it contributes 0 points to the base Scrabble score.
3. Choose Your Word List
Select the word list that matches the game you are playing. For UK and international-style Scrabble searches, start with the UK/international option.
4. Apply Advanced Filters
If you already know part of the word, use the advanced options to narrow your results by starting letters, endings or required letters.
5. Compare Four-Letter Results
Review the matching four-letter words and compare their base Scrabble scores to find useful options.
Find 4 Letter Words Using These Letters
Have a group of letters and need to make a word containing exactly four letters? Enter them into the 4 Letter Word Finder to search for matching words from the selected word list.
The tool focuses only on 4 letter words, helping you quickly narrow your options without browsing a large general word list.
Find Four-Letter Words From Your Letters
You can enter four letters or a larger group of letters and search for words containing exactly four letters.
The Finder checks possible combinations while keeping every result restricted to the required length.
Narrow Your 4 Letter Word Search
Use the advanced options when you know more about the word you need.
You can search for:
- four-letter words beginning with particular letters;
- words ending with a known sequence;
- words containing required letters; or
- words that can be formed using blank tiles.
Advanced Options for Finding Four-Letter Words
The advanced filters can help reduce the results to four-letter words that better match your situation.
Find 4 Letter Words That Start With Certain Letters
Use the Starts With option when you know how the word begins.
For example:
ST__ can narrow the results to four-letter words beginning with ST.
Find Four-Letter Words That End With Certain Letters
Use the Ends With filter when you know how the word should finish.
For example:
__ER restricts the results to four-letter words ending in ER.
Find Words Containing Required Letters
Use the Must Contain option when a particular letter or sequence must appear in the result. For example, entering AR can narrow the search to four-letter words containing that sequence.
Use Blank Tiles
Blank tiles can represent missing letters and may open up additional four-letter possibilities. A blank always contributes 0 points when the base Scrabble score is calculated.
Sort Four-Letter Results
Once matching words are found, sort the results by Scrabble score or alphabetically to compare possible plays more easily. Because every result on this page already contains exactly four letters, word-length sorting is unnecessary.
Why Four-Letter Words Matter in Scrabble
Four-letter words are useful because they can fit into tighter areas of the board and often give you more placement options than longer words.
A short word can sometimes create a better move than a longer one if it connects well with existing tiles or reaches a valuable premium square.
Fit Words Into Limited Board Space
As the board fills up, finding space for longer words becomes more difficult. A four-letter word may fit into a smaller opening, making it useful when only a few spaces are available.
Connect With Existing Words
Four-letter words can be easier to place alongside or across letters already on the board. This can help you create new words while extending the existing layout.
Use Difficult Rack Letters
A four-letter play can also help you use letters that are awkward to combine into longer words. The 4 Letter Word Finder lets you explore possible combinations from your available tiles before deciding which play works best.
Reach Premium Squares
The highest-scoring move is not always the longest word. A strategically placed four-letter word can sometimes reach a double-letter, triple-letter, double-word or triple-word square and produce a stronger score.
Which Word List Should You Use?
Different word lists may contain different accepted words, so the results from a 4 Letter Word Finder can vary depending on the dataset selected.
UK & International Four-Letter Words
For UK and international-style Scrabble searches, select the SOWPODS option available in the Finder. This is the most relevant starting point for players using UK or international Scrabble word conventions.
North American 4 Letter Words
For North American play, choose the TWL word list. Some four-letter words may appear in one supported word list but not another, so choosing the correct dataset matters.
What About ENABLE?
ENABLE provides broader English-language word coverage and can be useful for general word searches.
However, a word appearing only in ENABLE should not automatically be treated as a valid Scrabble word. Use the appropriate Scrabble word list when checking game validity.

How Scrabble Scores Work for 4 Letter Words?
Every matching result in the 4 Letter Word Finder includes a base Scrabble score calculated from the standard point value of the letters in the word.
This makes it easier to compare different four-letter words before considering where they could be placed on the board.
1. High-Value Letters
Letters such as Q, Z, J and X are worth more points than common letters such as A, E, I or S. A four-letter word containing a high-value tile can therefore score much more than another word of the same length.
2. Blank Tiles Score Zero
A blank tile remains worth 0 points regardless of the letter it represents. For example, if a blank is used as Z, the blank itself does not contribute the normal point value of a Z tile.
3. Base Score vs Actual Board Score
The Finder shows the word’s base tile score.
Your actual score during a game may be different because of:
- double-letter squares;
- triple-letter squares;
- double-word squares;
- triple-word squares;
- existing letters already on the board; and
- cross-words created by the play.
4. Four-Letter Words and Bingo Bonuses
A four-letter play does not qualify for the 50-point Scrabble bingo bonus. A bingo requires you to use all seven tiles from your rack in a single move.
