Use the 5 Letter Word Finder above to search for words made from the letters you have available. The tool returns only five-letter matches and lets you refine the results with filters, blank tiles and word-list options, making it easier to compare suitable words and their Scrabble scores.
How to Use the 5 Letter Word Finder?
Our 5 Letter Word Finder is designed for situations where you know the word must contain exactly five letters. Enter the letters you have available, choose the appropriate word list, and use the filters to narrow the results.
The Finder will return matching five-letter words that fit your search rather than mixing results of different lengths.
1. Enter Your Available Letters
Type the letters you want to use into the search box. The tool will search for 5 letter words that can be formed from the letters available to you.
2. Add Blank Tiles if Needed
If you have a blank tile, add it to your search so the Finder can substitute another letter when looking for possible five-letter words. A blank tile contributes 0 points when the base Scrabble score is calculated.
3. Use the Advanced Filters
Narrow your results when you already know something about the word you need. You can search for a 5 letter word that starts with particular letters, ends with a specific sequence, or contains required letters or patterns supported by the Finder.
4. Compare Five-Letter Words
Review the matching results and compare their Scrabble scores. Sorting the results can help you identify useful five letter words without manually checking every possible combination.
5. Check an Unfamiliar Word
If you find a word you do not recognise, use our Scrabble Word Checker UK to review its supported word-list status, score, definition and other available information.
Find 5 Letter Words Using These Letters
Have a group of letters and need to make a word of exactly five letters? Enter them into our 5 Letter Word Finder to discover matching words from the selected word list.
The tool is useful when you want to find 5 letter words using these letters rather than browse every five-letter word available. It checks the letters you enter and returns only matching words with exactly five letters.
Find Five Letter Words From Your Letters
If you have more than five letters available, the Finder can search those letters for possible five-letter words. This makes it easier to identify useful combinations without trying every arrangement manually.
You can also use blank tiles where supported and compare the Scrabble score of each matching word.
Narrow Your 5 Letter Word Search
Already know part of the word? Use the advanced options to refine the results. You can search for a 5 letter word that begins with certain letters, ends with a particular sequence, or contains required letters or patterns supported by the tool.
These filters are especially useful when you need a five-letter result that fits a specific space or letter combination.
Advanced Options for Finding Five-Letter Words
The 5 Letter Word Finder includes advanced options to help you narrow a large set of possible results. These filters are useful when you already know one or more letters that must appear in a particular part of the word.
Find 5 Letter Words That Start With Certain Letters
Use the Starts With filter when you know how the word should begin. For example, entering ST will limit the results to five-letter words beginning with those letters. (Starts With | ST___)
Find Five-Letter Words That End With Certain Letters
The Ends With filter is useful when the final letters are already known. Enter the ending you need and the Finder will return matching five-letter words that fit the requirement. (Ends With | ___ER)
Find Words Containing Required Letters
Use the Must Contain option when certain letters need to appear in the result. This helps reduce the number of possible 5 letter words when part of the answer or available letter combination is already known. (Must Contain | A + R)
Use Blank Tiles
Blank tiles can stand in for missing letters and increase the number of possible results. When a blank is used, it contributes 0 points to the base Scrabble score even though it represents another letter. (Blank Tiles | ?)
Sort Five-Letter Results
Once the Finder returns matching words, sort the results by Scrabble score or alphabetically to make useful five-letter options easier to compare. On this page, every result is already restricted to five letters, so score and alphabetical sorting are especially useful. (Sort Results | Score ↓)
Which Word List Should You Use?
Different word lists can contain different accepted words, so the results from a 5 Letter Word Finder may vary depending on the dataset you choose.
If you are playing in the UK or under international-style Scrabble rules, start with the UK/international word-list option. Players using North American rules can select the corresponding US word list.
1. UK & International Five-Letter Words
For UK-focused searches, choose the SOWPODS option available in the Finder. This helps you find five-letter words from the UK/international-oriented dataset used by the tool.
2. North American 5 Letter Words
If you are playing under North American Scrabble conventions, select the TWL word-list option. A word accepted in one dataset may not necessarily appear in another.
3. What About ENABLE?
ENABLE provides broader general-English word coverage. It can be useful for general word searches, but a word appearing only in ENABLE should not automatically be treated as valid in Scrabble.

How Scrabble Scores Work for 5 Letter Words
Every result in our 5 Letter Word Finder includes a base Scrabble score, which is calculated by adding together the standard point value of each letter in the word.
This makes it easier to compare different five-letter words and identify which options have the highest base value.
High-Value Letters Can Make a Big Difference
Letters such as Q, Z, J and X are worth more points than common letters such as A, E, I or S. Because of this, a shorter-looking combination is not necessarily weaker than another word of the same length.
When comparing 5 letter words, the score can help you quickly spot words containing higher-value tiles.
Blank Tiles Score Zero Points
If a blank tile is used to represent another letter, the blank itself contributes 0 points to the base word score.
For example, if a blank represents a Z, it can help form the word, but that blank does not contribute the normal 10 points of a Z tile.
Base Score vs Actual Board Score
The score shown by the Finder is the word’s base tile score. Your actual score during a Scrabble game may be different because of:
- double-letter squares;
- triple-letter squares;
- double-word squares;
- triple-word squares;
- existing letters already on the board; and
- other applicable bonuses.
Can a 5 Letter Word Get a Bingo Bonus?
No. A Scrabble bingo requires a player to use all seven tiles from their rack in a single move, so a five-letter play by itself does not qualify for the 50-point bingo bonus.
